Wellington police arrested a Carbon County youth Friday and referred him to Juvenile Court on charges of felony theft for allegedly stealing $2,500 to $3,000 worth of copper cable from the Joy Manufacturing facility on Ridge Road.
According to Chief Lee Barry, an employee at Joy spotted the theft in progress at about 8:30 a.m. on the company lot and provided police with a description of the vehicle and license plate number. All law enforcement agencies were notified to be on the lookout.
The chief said that Utah Highway trooper Sean Alton spotted and stopped the vehicle in Helper and detained the suspect until Barry could arrive at the scene to make the arrest.
Barry complimented the UHP and the Carbon County Sheriff's department for their handling of the incident. "It worked because everybody helped everybody else," he said.
