Walkers get greetings from parents as they leave school.
The first day of the new school year in the Carbon District began Wednesday as buses and parents dropped off their students at the doors.
This year there were a few more students than in 2010.
Foster Lott of the district's Student Services and SIS department said that preliminary first-day enrollment was 3,522. That is an increase of 60 students over last year's first day.
Creekview Elementary is apparently the largest single gainer, with an increase of about 20 kids.
Other schools held more or less constant.
The first day was really a half day, with schools letting out at 11:15 a.m., a good way to break into the world of work again after summer vacation.
