School is still a week and a half from starting up, but that doesn't mean high school sports is not underway. Last Friday night was the annual Blue/White Carbon football preseason scrimmage. This Friday night the season begins for real with a home opener against Monticello at 7 p.m.

In the Blue-White game it was the White team headed by starting quarterback Dakota Cisneros that won 16-0. Coach Jeff Blanc and the rest of the staff were very pleased with what they saw on the field in preparation for the next game. Cisneros and Daulton Nelson stepped it up on offense while Dillon Manzaneras shined on defense. Also Blanc was especially encouraged by the efforts of the sophomores and juniors.

They will put a hard week in in preparation for Monticello who will be up seeking revenge for their loss to Carbon last year. With no injuries in the Friday night scrimmage, Blanc says the team is hitting on all cylinders and will come ready to win this Friday night.

The girls soccer team headed to Richfield last Thursday for their opener and recorded a 2-0 loss. They only allowed one goal each half and played some solid defense for the young team. They also played Union on Friday, but no scores are available on that game. The team will be home this Tuesday for a head to head meeting with Stansbury at 4 p.m. on the USU Eastern field.

Carbon High's girls volleyball team will have their Blue-White scrimmage this Thursday, Aug. 18 and they will be introducing the team and the 2011 cheerleading squad. Drawings and prizes will be given away at the event.
