Official statements from the LDS Church regarding illegal immigration are consistent with the Constitution. Article I, Section 8 places matters of naturalization under the authority of Congress. Accordingly all immigration laws are federal. If all are Federal, then none are State. Is that too complicated?
It means simply that Utah's HB 116, dealing with immigration issues, is unconstitutional. All of our state legislators have taken an oath to abide by the U.S. Constitution and they can demonstrate their loyalty by repealing HB 116. Some of our legislators also claim allegiance to the Twelfth Article of Faith - perhaps they should take that seriously too.
