Wellington's Pioneer Days this Friday and Saturday

Banners honoring Wellington's pioneer families were a highlight of last year's parade.

Wellington's big event, the annual Pioneer Days celebration, will begin Friday night with an outdoor cookout of beef and lamb by the Cowboy Kitchen. Dinner begins at 6:30 p.m. at the city park.

On Saturday, the day will begin with breakfast in the city park at 7 a.m, with the parade beginning on Main Street at 10 a.m.

The theme this year is "Our Roots Run Deep," recognizing that many of the town's current residents are descendants of the pioneer families who originally settled the area.

The events take months to plan, with city council involvement typically beginning before the snow melts each year.

In addition to the meals and parade, the were be entertainment in the park, a horseshoe tournament, with food booths and vendors set up.

There will also be free games and rides for kids.
