G. Neil Magann

G. Neil Magann

TOOELE - Neil, a great husband, brother, father and friend passed away June 24, 2011 while working at Stansbury Park Golf Course, a job that brought him so much enjoyment in his retirement. Neil was born in 1935 to Olive Chiono and Verdis Magann in Helper and grew up in Castle Gate. He was very proud of his Carbon County roots.

He married Josephine Welch in 1956. Jo died in 1989. He married Jean Anne Farnsworth in 1994 and they had spent the past seventeen years in Tooele.

Neil worked for over thirty years at Dugway Proving Grounds where he and Jo raised their family. Neil always found time to support his children in their activities and interests. He was very popular with the neighborhood kids.

In his lifetime Neil developed groups of good friends in Price, Dugway, Tooele and Needles where he and Jean escaped the snow each winter. He enjoyed his little vegetable garden and cooking. He loved his evening cocktail hour and telling the corniest jokes ever heard. He took up golf late in life and it kept him healthy and active. He will go out wearing his favorite outfit: a pair of jeans and University of Notre Dame t-shirt and cap.

Neil is survived by his wife Jean, sons Mike (Linda), Tony (Jody), Gus (Nicole) and daughter Kelli (Mike), stepdaughters Jamie and Kim; he also leaves five grandchildren, one great granddaughter, and one step-grandson.

Sisters Verla Jones, Karen Maloney, Loretta Magann and Connie Snyder also survive him.

A funeral mass will be celebrated at St. Marguerites Catholic Church in Tooele on Thursday June 30 at 10 a.m.

Those who wish can arrive an hour prior to visit the family. A graveside service will be conducted that same day at the Price Cemetery in Price at 2 p.m. Family and friends are invited to a wake in Neil's honor at the Price Elks Club that evening at 4 p.m.
