The Carbon High's Girls Golf team captured their first Region 10 Championship by defeating Park City with a score of 191 to 185 last Tuesday at Wasatch Mountain State Park. The Region tournament is an 18-hole event and decides the region title and the top individual players.
Cassandra Hawkinson led the Dinos with 67 points, Sam Jones posted a great round of 64 and Lexi Gagon finished with 60 points to hold off a charging Park City for the tournament win and region Championship.
"It was a tough day all around but the Lady Dinos never gave up and held on to precious points when everyone else was just throwing them away," stated Coach Kenji Otani.
When the smoke cleared, Carbon won the Region Championship with an aggregate score of 583 points. Park City was second with 573, Union third at 410 and Wasatch finished the season with 387 points.

"What a great season!" added Otani. "My girls have done everything I have ever asked of them but, they have one more thing to do for themselves... win State next week. This team and this program continues to grow and improve, I am constantly amazed by these talented young women."
The state tournament will be May 19 at Mountain View golf course.
