Kenny Hobbs winds up to kick in an earlier game against Union.
After two bad region losses, the Dino soccer squad bounced back with a couple of better performances last week. Carbon battled American Leadership Academy to a 1-1 double overtime tie on Wednesday. Despite losing 3-0 to Park City on Friday they also had another solid game.
On Wednesday Carbon headed over to take on the Eagles. It was ALA who scored in the first half. The Dinos did not allow anything else to penetrate the net for the rest of the game. But with less than five minutes left in regulation Jorge Mendiola finally found the target and tied up the game. Both teams hunkered down and refused to give any ground and the game ended with in a stalemate and the Dinos fourth tie of the season.
Park City showed up to play on Friday. The Dinos set a goal to not allow their opposition to score more than three on them. Freshman Yostin Solis was given the nod at the Carbon Goal Keep spot. He held the Miners to only one goal in the first half and two in the final period.
"In the ALA game I think this was the first time they played hard all 80 minutes. In past games, they have had periods where they played hard and then they slow it up,"said coach Keith Palmer. "This time they gave it everything the whole game and the overtime. Coming off that grueling game, they still played hard against Park City. The entire defensive line played great. The tie was positive for the kids and it really lifted them up to face Park City."
Palmer hopes they can carry the momentum over to their away game with Wasatch on Wednesday. With few days of practice and rest under their belt, Palmer is looking forward to a better result than the last time the two teams met.
