Over the weekend the Price Elks Boxing Club traveled to the Utah State Golden Gloves tournament. The tournament was held at the Murray Sports Mall.
The Price Elks Boxing Club had three boxers matched up in the tournament. Trent Wilberg in the open class, senior division at super heavyweight was matched up against Sepi Pouha of Salt Lake City, last year's Golden Gloves Champion of Utah and the Rocky Mountain Region. Trent out boxed Sepi for three of the rounds but the decision went Sepi's way on a 3-2 judges split decision.
Also matched in the open senior division was Thomas Sanchez at the 165 pound class. Thomas was matched up with Mike Gomez of Louie's Club of Salt Lake City. Thomas won by disqualification over Gomez making Thomas the Utah State Golden Gloves Champion at the 165 pound division. Thomas will advance to the Rocky Mountain Regional Tournament to take on the winners from Wyoming, Idaho and Montana. The regional tournament will take place April 8 and 9 at the XSI Sports Center in Lehi, Utah.
Last boxer to box Saturday night was Brayden Olsen, eleven years old, of the Price Elks Boxing Club. This was Brayden's first match and he knew it wouldn't be easy. He was matched up against Johnny Gallegos of Foley's Gym located in Ogden. After three rounds Gallegos won the decision.
