Even though the final score of 63-59 does not reflect how close the game was, it did come down to the final few plays to determine which team would survive the first round action and move on in the tournament. Snow and EU were evenly matched before going into SWAC first round action. Snow had one two, but an improved EU team had taken the final game in the series.
The Lady Eagles came out hard and put the Badgers on their heels early. It was EU up by 10 at the half. The Eagle lead grew to 10 mid way through the second period, but Snow drained trey's on back to back possessions and suddenly it was back to a close game. In the final minutes of play the score was tied seven times and the lead changed five times.
With EU ahead, they opted for a full court press. Coach Dave Paur said in retrospect that he knew he should have told them not to do that. Snow broke the press and hit a three. With a second remaining on the clock, EU committed one final foul and game the Badgers two extra points to pad their score and the game was over.
Priscila Santos scored 20 points and pulled in 10 rebounds. Daina Ferreria also had a double double with 13 points and 10 boards. Bruna Deichmann matched Ferreria with 13 points.
Overall, Coach Paur was happy with the season, "It was tough but still a fun year. It felt better from a coaches perspective. It seemed like the girls got along well. What hurt us was injuries and that led to a lack of depth. We need to get stronger at the guard position and just have more depth to see more success."
So far things are looking up for next season as Paur already has two verbal commitments from some good players. Shelby Carsen from American Fork has chosen EU over SLCC. She is a 5'9" perimeter player that Paur describes as having some really good post moves. Also Brazilian Camila Schenieder has also expressed intent to play here. She is a 6' three-point shooter and turned down an invitation to play at Oral Roberts University. Santos is also returning next season and was nominated to the All-American JUCO team this year.
