Spelling bee winners ready for regional competition

Paul Bryner, Caleb Starzel and Jade Sheperd display their spelling trophies.

The Carbon School District held a spelling bee recently for fourth through eighth graders in the auditorium of the district office.

Participating schools had already held school spelling bees to determine who their top three winners were. Three schools were expected to have student spellers at the bee, in the end only Creekview and Wellington sent students. There is hope that next year more schools in the district will hold spelling bees.

However, the six students who competed were very prepared and excited to have this opportunity. They did a wonderful job, and the competition was intense.

First place went to Paul Bryner (Creekview), Second place went to Caleb Starzel (Creekview) and Third place went to Jade Sheperd (Wellington). These three spellers will advance to the Southeastern Region Spelling Bee to be held at Grand County High School. The winners of the Southeastern Region Spelling Bee will travel to Washington D.C. to compete in the Scripps National Spelling Bee.
