A two car head-on crash on an icy stretch of SR 191 injured five people Tuesday, according to the Utah Highway Patrol.

A White Honda Accord was traveling southbound near milepost 260 when the car hit slush and ice on the road, causing it to spin out of control and run head-on into a Red Pontiac Grand Am traveling in the opposite lane, according to Trooper Bradley Shaw.

The female driver and three passengers in the Accord, including two children, needed to be extracted from the vehicle. A male driver in the Grand Am did not require extrication, according to Shaw.

All five victims were being transported to Castleview Hospital with non-life threatening injuries, Shaw said.

Respondents to the scene included Helper Police Department, Helper Fire and Rescue, Utah Highway Patrol, Carbon County Sheriff's Department and Carbon County Ambulance.

Speed was not thought to be a factor in the accident, according to Shaw.
