It was a good week for the Lady Dinos.
On Tuesday they wrapped up the region 10 title with a win over ALA. On Friday night they cruised to another big win over Park City. The game was never in question as Carbon trounced the Miners 76-21.
It was senior night on Friday and the Lady Dinos senior squad gave the crowd a great show from the beginning to the end of the game. Carbon held the Miners to under 10 points every quarter and forced so many turnovers it seemed like a half court game.
For Coach Cami Carlson, these games are a mixed blessing. Knowing that the competition at the state tournament will be stiff, it would be nice if the Lady Dinos had to work a bit harder to secure a win.
But on the other hand these games continue to give the Lady Dinos a way to improve their already solid defense. This game the focus was on putting a triangle defense into play. Carslon was pleased with the results.
"This defense concentrates on stopping two major scorers. I thought we did a good job with it. We looked sharp," she said.
In the final six minutes of the last quarter, Carlson began to sit her starters and made sure everyone on the bench rotated in for some playing minutes.
Ten Lady Dinos scored with Tia Pappas finishing with 26 points, 4 rebounds, 4 assists and 6 steals. Mariah Pollock also had a good night with 15 points and five assists. Kylee Lessar pulled in nine rebounds.
Only Wasatch stands in the way of a Lady Dino region sweep. Carbon heads up to play them this Friday night. On Saturday Feb. 19 the Lady Dinos will host the region 12 number four seed for a play-in game. The play-in will take place at 7 p.m. at the Carbon High gym.
