Lady Eagles come home empty handed

Sun Advocate sports reporter

The Lady Eagles did what very few expected a few weeks back and that was pull off an upset win over SLCC. This weekend there was no Cinderella win for the EU women as they went down to a 54-40 defeat at the hands of the Bruins. On Saturday EU almost pulled off a big one as they were just edged out by Snow in a 70-69 loss.

On Friday night, one of the big differences was that while Salt Lake went to the line 28 times and made 20 shots, EU went a mere six times and hit only two. By the half the Lady Eagles were down 32-15. The bright side of an otherwise tough game was that EU outscored the Bruins 25-22 in the final period of play.

Maddie Hind was the workhorse for the team with 14 points. Priscila Santos added 11 while pulling in nine boards.

Shaking off the loss, the Eagles fought hard against the Bagers on Saturday. They found themselves down by only three in the first half. Again it was EU who had the better score in the second half of play, but they just couldnst quite get the two extra points they needed for the win.

Bruna Deichmann and Santos were the offensive power for the team with a combined 55 points.

EU is now in fifth place in the SWAC standings at 3-5, with CSI right above them at 4-4. The Eagles take on CSI on Friday night at home at 5:30 and could pull themselves even with them if they can post a win. On Saturday at 3 p.m. EU will host NIC right before the men square off at 5 p.m.
