The Lady Dinos basketball team opened region play with a pair of road wins last week. On Tuesday the team came away with a 53-49 win over Union. On Thursday they crushed ALA 71-28 to take their overall record to 11-1 on the season. The are 2-0 in region 10 play.

Union took the early lead in the Tuesday night contest wit a 13-9 first quarter score. But the Lady Dinos turned the tide and out scored the Cougars 25-5 in the second period to head to the locker room up 34-18.

It was Union who looked sharper in the third as they closed the gap to 39-41 at the end of the third. It remained close, but Carbon held on to out score them in the final period and finish four up over Union for the win.

Tia Pappas put up 19 points and 6 rebounds to lead the Dino offense. Sara Potts and Miranda Averett added eight each. Averett also pulled in six boards.

Coach Cami Carlson said the team blew the lead they had at the half, allowing Union to climb back into the game. Union took the lead at one point, but the girls played cool and got through it, she said.

"It was pretty scary for awhile," said Carlson. "But we finally pulled it out."

Carlson credited the defense which caused turnovers leading to good scoring opportunities for the Lady Dinos.

On Thursday night, it was all Carbon. The Lady Dinos jumped out to a 22-13 lead. That was the last quarter ALA was able to score more than five points. Thirteen Carbon players saw action in the game. Pappas put up 23 points and forced 11 steals. Kylee Lessar added nine and Rachel Scoggins led on the boards with four in a low rebounding game.

Carbon travels to Park City on Tuesday night to take on the Lady Miners.
