After the hard fought battle with Emery, the Carbon girls were looking forward to the game against North Sevier. They had seen them play and knew this would be the perfect game to try out a new defense they were putting in place. Even with some rough edges and a lot of JV getting some varsity court time, the Lady Dinos cruised to a 64-29 win over the Wolves on Friday night.

It was never a game in question as the Dinos led from beginning to end starting out on a bucket off the tip by Sara Potts. Potts finished with 14 points. Tia Pappas quickly racked up 17 even with getting to enjoy most of the game on the bench watching and resting.

There were many opportunities for the bench to see some action and many made good use of it. Lexi Gagon hit a three and a pair of free throws to end with five points. Breanna Hurdsman also came off the bench and added four. Kylee Lessar hit seven, Kristen Jewkes had four, Mariah Pollock put up six, Miranda Averett also got five as the team spread the scoring around.

"We knew this was not going to be a very big challenge tonight," said coach Cami Carlson. "Many teams in our region have one good player and we have been working on a new defense for those kind of teams. Even though North Sevier was not that kind of team, it gave us real game experience. We were a little rough at times but it worked out good. We will get a chance to use it when we face Union this week because they are one of those teams. It was good to see what needs to still be fixed tonight."

The 9-1 Dinos will head to Roosevelt on Tuesday for their first region game of the season as they take on Union. They face ALA on the road on Thursday.
