Frances Mena

SUNNYSIDE - Our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend, Frances Ledesma Mena, was called home on Jan. 10, 2011 at the age of 89.

She was born Oct. 6, 1921 in Osage, Kan., to Antonio Martinez and Francesica Vasquez Ledesma. The family later moved to Delta, Colo., where she met and married Arthur R. Mena, Dec. 28, 1938 in Delta, Colo; he died Dec. 31, 1997. She and Arthur moved to Sunnyside in 1950 which she has called home ever since.

Frances cherished her family. She was an excellent cook, her children and grandchildren were treated to her wonderful meals. She always took great pride in her yard and had some of the most beautiful flowers in town. Of recent one of her favorite things was to take her walker and stroll around the block in her neighborhood in Layton, stopping to visit and making friends with anyone she came in contact with. She also loved going out to lunch at McGraffs Fish House with her daughter Irene, and looked forward to visiting her little house in Sunnyside, whenever Robert could bring her down.

Frances leaves us all with wonderful memories of her kind heart and generous spirit.

Frances is survived by two sons and one daughter, Raul (Rosie) Mena, East Carbon; and their three children: Scott (Laurie), Bryan (Lisa), Monica (Jake) Nyland; Robert "Bob" (Peggy) Mena, Salt Lake City; and their two children, Rodney (Laura), Alisha; Irene (Gary) Cahoon, Layton; and their children: Mike (Michelle) Ross, Maria Sanchez, Brad (Jodi) Cahoon, Juli (Tom) Riley, Coni (Michael) Cadieux; 20 great-grandchildren; and three great-great grandchildren; sisters, Jenny Cruz and Margie Lobato, both of Montrose, Colo; sister-in-law, Mary Ledesma, Grand Junction, Colo.

Preceded in death by her parents, husband, infant daughter Vera; and four brothers, Mike, Layne, Tony and Joe Ledesma.
