Jullinn Garcia puts in a fourth quarter bucket as the Panthers easily took down the Lynx last Wednesday
A two game winning streak is what the Pinnacle Panthers got for Christmas this year. They racked up their second straight win with a 64-52 victory over Salt Lake Lutheran on a wet Wednesday night.
The first quarter of play was a slugfest as both teams matched each other point for point. But as PCA entered the second quarter, their defense stymied the Lynx and held them to only four points. The Panthers headed to the locker room up 28-17.
PCA stayed hot in the third period and extended their lead by another four. They entered the fourth period of play up 47-35. The fourth quarter was slowed by fouls committed by both sides. SLL tried to make a run for it in the end, but the Panthers did not let up and cruised to an easy win.
Coach Devin Shakespear was happy with his team's effort on the court. "We kept the tempo up because they played zone against us and we could penetrate and score. The quick tempo also force their (SLL) players to take bad shots. It was a true team effort on the night," he remarked. "We shared the ball well and we were able to score. Everyone on our team has the ability to score. They are all good athletes."
Four Panthers hit double figures. It was Demetri Hullings that lead the scoring barrage with 21 points. He hit five treys on the night. Jullinn Garcia added 14, Barry Hamilton put up 12 and MJ Taberna had 10 on the night.
The team will resume play on the road with a Dec.30 match-up with Manilla. The team will begin region action with a road game against Green River on Jan. 14.
