Tia Pappas makes an easy layup after another steal. She had 21 points and seven steals to lead the Lady DInos to victory over North Sanpete.
The Carbon High Lady Dinos started their season off in a great way as they run away with a 59-38 win over North Sanpete in their season opener at home Tuesday night. The team will head to play Emery on Wednesday night and those results will be in next week's Sun Advocate.
The Dinos opened play with an aggressive full court press that stymied the Hawks. North Sanpete was only able to make four points in the first quarter, while Carbon racked up 18 to set the tempo for the game.
Coach Cami Carlson was very pleased with the hustle and intensity her team showed on the court, but definitely saw the raw edge of preseason play. Especially in the first half of play, the Dinos were almost too aggressive as they committed many reaching fouls when they tried to force turnovers. Carlson admits that it is something they will be working on during the preseason.
Tia Pappas led the Dinos scoring frenzy with 21 points and seven steals. Breanna Hurdsman put up six points and grabbed six boards. Mariah Pollock put up eight and Kylee Lessar added six points. Most of the bench got a chance for some court time in the final minutes of the game.
The team will be on the road for a series of tournaments until December 21 when they will take on North Sevier High at 7:00.
