The Carbon high swim team competed in their first meet of the season on Oct. 29 against the Richfield Wildcats. The Carbon boys ended with a 95-75 win. The Lady Dinos swam strong and were tied heading into the last two events, but just couldn't hold on as they fell 78-91.
The Dinos started the meet very strong. They placed first and second in both the girl's and boy's 200 medley relays. In the 200 freestyle, Brittney Willson captured second and team mate Megan Barnett was third. For the boy's, Brandon Gibson took first, Dylan Jarrett in third, Jade Powell brought home fourth, and Landon Barr took seventh.
For the 200 I.M., the swimmers have to be good at all four strokes. Aysha Black had her best time and took second. Heather Bone made a dramatic improvement with fifteen seconds off her time and ended third. Lance Riche captured second and Vaughn Garff finished third.
In the next event Jill Malone captured first, Paula Gibson took second, Tati Larsen in fourth, Kim Callaway in fifth, Jenae Wilhelmi in eighth, Samantha Bradley in 11th, Ashley Noyes in 12th.
The Dinos have three new swimmers and all three girls just learned how to swim in the last month. They all swam in the fifty free and Erica Mantz got ninth, Sam Jones placed 10th, and Haley Shiner was 13th. For the boy's, Dakota Powell took an impressive first, Joel Garff was third, Austin Pullan in fourth, Jade Powell ended fifth, Austin Baker was 10th, Jake Allred in 12th, Kenny Carmck in 13th. Travis Mogenson has only been swimming for a couple weeks, but is picking up fast as he finished 15th in the 50 free.
In the 100 butterfly the Carbon girls dominated. Black captured first,with team mate Larsen in second. For the boys, Dakota Powell grabbed first, and Thory VanDyke was fouth.
In the 100 free, Paula Gibson was second, Lizethe Pendleton took seven seconds off her time and came in fourth; Samantha Bradley was seventh, and Callaway finished eighth. Brandon Gibson captured first in the 100 free. Vaughn Garff was right behind in second, Joel Garff was fourth, Landon Barr in sixth and Junior Austin Martinez took 10th.
In the longest event of the night, the 500 free, Ashley Noyes was fourth and Wilhemi took fifth. The boy's Pullan finished third and Carmack was fourth.
In the 200 free relay the Carbon girls finished second and fourth and the Carbon boys also were second and fourth. In the 100 back, Willson grabbed second, Bone takes third, and Malone was fourth. Carbon's Riche captured first in the back while Austin Baker who is also new this season, took fourth.
In the 100 breast Pendleton bettered her time by six seconds and finished third. For the boys, VanDyke captured first, just out touching team mate Zach Prettyman with second. Dylan Jarrett took fifth, Jake Allred in sixth and Junior Austin Martinez was seventh. In the 400 free relay Carbon girls finished second and fourth with Carbon boys finishing second, third and fifth.
"I am very pleased at how well our team swam and its only the first of the season," said Coach Kamra Davis. "I am looking forward to see what they can accomplish!"
The Carbon Dinos made the trip to Vernal on Wednesday to take on Uintah Utes.
