The Carbon High Dinos sent six golfers to the state tournament down in St. George with Carbon finishing in 8th place out of 17 teams at the tournament, only four shots out of 7th place.

Including the Dinos, Region 10 had all four teams in the top eight. Park City took top honors and won the 3A tournament. Wasatch garnered fifth place and Union ended in sixth with Carbon taking eighth. It was an impressive showing from Region 10 teams.

Gage Bigelow led the Dinos with an 81 on the first day and a 79 on the second. Jaren McCourt shot a 79 on the first day and finished with an 86. Clint Finkbiner shot an 81 on the first day and finished with an 87. Nick Rukavina shot a 93 on day one and shot an 86 on the second day.

The other two other Dino golfers that traveled with the team. They were Kody Henrie and Derek Young. Since only the top four individual scores count toward the team total, their scores were not included. However Coach Tony Pinedo wanted to make sure they were recognized for making the team. They will be two to keep an eye on in the next season as Carbon continues to rebuild. This was a relatively younger team than in the past and are in one of the toughest regions in the state for golf, but the team showed they will be an even bigger force next year.

"The weather was beautiful and our players did a great job. Our goal was to finish in the top 10 so we could qualify to play on the second day. We found out later that they (the tournament officials) would not be making any cuts, but we still wanted to get into the top 10," Pinedo added as he summed up the tournament and the season. "Even after losing four seniors from last year's team, our players had a great season."
