The Helper Junior High varsity volleyball squad was the winner this year of the Castle Valley Junior High Activities Association Tournament. The team went into the tournament with a 5-1 record.

To get to the championship game they played strong and beat Mont Harmon 21-11, 20-8 and 20-18.

Next up was San Rafael Junior High. This was a much tougher match and it went five full sets before Helper emerged the victor. Scores for that match were 20-15, 20-17, 21-22, 17-20 and 20-18. Helper met Canyon View in the final game and swept the match in three 21-19, 20-17 and 20-18.

Coach Barbara Scoggins said she was very proud of her team.

"Each girl needs to be commended for their contributions leading to the championship," she said.

"Alexus Wilson and Kassi Price led the team with strong serves. Giovanna Chiara, Maddy Weaver and Kilee Tanner dominated the net with some key blocking. That forced the other teams to tip to where Lacie Sheppard, Katee Martinez and Anna Jean Atkins picked up everything, letting nothing hit the floor."

Scoggins went on to say, "It has been great watching these girls come together as a team, helping each other, pushing each other and succeeding together. It has been a well deserved win both in the season and the tournament. The coaches couldn't be more proud of them."
