Thank you very much for the photos and story of our Annual Ascension St. Matthew's Church Fall Fare (Sun Advocate, Oct. 14). We do appreciate your community mindedness. Here's just a little more to the story.
We have been doing the Fall Fare for several years now. We have three distinct divisions for those who visit us: Kitchen, Yard Sale, and Gift Shop. All of the items in the halls are for the Yard Sale and not overflow from the Gift Shop which is not temporary at all but has been in the church since the building was built in 2002. The Kitchen offers a great selection of soups, homemade goodies, canned items, and more. The Yard Sale is, well, a Yard Sale.
We thank everyone from the community who stopped by to shop, eat, and visit with us. More than 20 members of the congregation put in over 300 total hours putting the Fall Fare together, working over the two days of the event and cleaning up. We love to do this for the community. And the best part of the story is that most of the money we earn from this event is given away to a variety of agencies, institutions, individuals in need and church-related mission work such as disaster relief and world hunger concerns. Locally we support the Carbon County Food Bank, Active Re-Entry, The Perky Bus, the Angel Tree, and many more.
This year we also took on a major project when we adopted and completely furnished The Finish Line, the boys' bedroom at the Children's Justice Center. We are able to assist individuals in need as we support and add additional dollars to our pastor's discretionary fund.
Ascension St. Matthew's Fall Fare is a community event and the community benefits from the hard work, love, dedication, and enthusiasm of our congregation. Thanks for coming this year and we hope to see you next year.
