An afternoon with a cadaver

Students from Carbon High School's Science Inquiry Leaning Center and A.P. Biology class join Dr. Tyson Chappell (in lab coat) for an afternoon with a cadaver (front row, lying down) at the USU-CEU biology lab. The classes and their teachers, Alyna Carrillo and Dan Taylor, looked on as Chappell dissected the body of a 72-year old New York man who had donated his body to science. Chappell explained the anatomy and functions of the brain and organs, and the disease that took the man's life. The overall view included the thyroid and other glands, muscles, lungs, heart liver and blood vessels. The students also got a look and explanation of the effects of alcohol and smoking. They also discovered a stent in one of the major arteries and learned about cholesterol blockage. Students were also interested to see and learn about the spleen, due to a recent spleen injury to one of their classmates.
