Fifty people from Price City traveled to Sandy last Saturday to attend a Real Salt Lake soccer game helping raise money for the American Cancer Society.
Relay for Life in Carbon County and RSL worked together to provide Carbon County residents the chance to see a RSL game at a reduced price with tickets costing $18. Five dollars from each ticket went to the American Cancer Society, with Price City raising about $250 to $300 total, said Mayor Joe Piccolo.
The hope going into the event was that enough people from Price would attend the game, thereby having RSL present the Relay for Life with a check for $1,000. In order for that to have occurred, 200 people would have needed to attend, Piccolo said.
Despite not having everything work out, money was still raised for a worthy cause. And those from Carbon County who made the trip, enjoyed an exciting soccer game with RSL beating the Chicago Fire, 1-0. The win pushed RSL's Major League Soccer record home unbeaten streak to 23 games.
"It was a lot of fun, the game was very exciting and many people from Price who attended said they had a good time," Piccolo said.
In addition to helping raise money for a good cause, Piccolo said getting the chance to promote Price in the Wasatch Front is great for the city and its residents.
"Any time Price City can be a part of something in the Wasatch Front, we can expose people up there to our city and events that we have here."
While the event has come and gone, the work towards attending another game next year is just starting.
Piccolo said he is hoping that this will become a yearly event with it becoming even bigger next year. To make it more successful, Piccolo said more work will be put into promoting the event throughout Price and trying to encourage as many people as possible to participate.
"We're not going to give up on this," he said. "And we're going to start working towards doing another event like this next year starting now."
