Not Helper I knew

By Flora (Borla) Franck

Recently I returned home to my class reunion held in Price and enjoyed seeing all my classmates whom I grew up with. Sadly 94 of them have passed away.

Saturday morning we decide to drive around Helper (my hometown) to see if things had improved. Oh, heaven forbid, the weeds are from one end to the other. Homes are in sad shape. I delivered papers over a large area and remember all my customers to the name. They would turn over in their graves if they could see their beautiful homes today. Thank God my mother's home is in great shape.

True, it takes money, but a little bit of elbow grease and a hoe and shovel could certainly improve the city. What a shame to see Helper today. Price runs circles around Helper because the people have pitched in and kept it clean. Yes there are some sad places, but not like Helper.

The only place looking nice was the cemetery and tho city park, which we stopped to visit with many at Canyon Days. We had a great time there seeing a lot of friends.

We left Carbon County feeling very depressed and will only return in an emergency.

Sorry, but these are my feelings. I'm sure many feel the same way.
