There was extra room on the 17 acres of the abandoned Knight-Ideal loadoat property, so the mayor and city council of Wellington asked state mine reclamation planners to put a skate park on the blueprint.
There shouldn't be a problem sketching in the area for future development, replied senior reclamation specialist J. Chris Rohrer at Wednesday's meeting.
Once the Abandoned Mine Reclamation Program completely removes all the coal and associated junk, the site will be ready for Wellington to build a showcase park. It won't happen overnight, but the site could include two baseball parks, urban fishing pond, picnic areas, restroom facilities and lots of parking. The City decided to plan for the most and build gradually.
