Police seek leads in cold cases

Wellington assault suspect

Area law enforcement agencies are asking for citizren help in solving cold cases.

In Wellington, police are asking for identification of a suspect in a serious assault that happened on April 28 at about 8:30 a.m. around 485 South 100 East. The alleged suspect was described as a male in his early 30s, according to Sgt. Kelly Maynes. The suspect was reported to have a slight Hispanic accent when he spoke. He has a slim build and is around 6 feet tall. He had short black comb-able hair and was wearing a light colored shirt and jeans. He also has a mark above his right eye.

"This case is actively under investigation, but we are hoping the public may be able to assist with some additional information. Anyone who may have information on this incident, please contact the Wellington Police Department at 435-637-4830," Sgt. Maynes said.

Meanwhile, he Division of Wildlife Resources is asking for citizen help to solve two crimes involving destruction of wildlife in Carbon County.

The first case occurred in March 2008 along Coal Creek Road. Four doe and one buck deer were killed out of season. The individuals shot from the road and left the deer to waste. "The meaningless and unlawful killing of deer on the winter range does long term damage to the health and growth our deer herds," according to Sgt. Stacey Jones of the DWR. Anyone with information about the individuals involved in this crime is encouraged to call. Contacts may remain anonymous, she said.

The second case occurred on the evening of May 20 or the morning of May 21 when a large buck antelope was shot and killed along the Soldier Creek Road near the mouth of Nine Mile Canyon. Many people observed the antelope suffering in a field by the road. Persons with any information are encouraged to call Sergeant Stacey Jones at 435-820-6445 or the UTIP hotline at 1-800-662-3337. Rewards will be paid for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those who are responsible, she said.
