Skyline Tractor Salvage Project

Manti-La Sal National Forest
The Sanpete and Ferron/Price Ranger District, Manti-La Sal National
Forest is proposing to salvage approximately 205 acres of dead
Engelmann spruce using mechanical equipment. The proposed Skyline
Tractor Salvage Project area is located 12 miles east of Mayfield,
Utah in T. 19 S., R. 4 E., Sections 15, 16, 28, 29 and T 20 S., R 4
E., Sections 4, 5, 8, and 9. The project is planned to take place
during the summer of 2011.
1) Remove all dead merchantable Engelmann spruce 10 inches
diameter and greater, with the exception of wildlife snags, using
ground-based systems on approximately 129 acres and aerial
systems on approximately 76 acres.
2) Post harvest weed and thin - Reduce the amount of sapling
s ize sub-alpine fir
3) Plant Engelmann spruce on harvested acres.
Salvage dead and dying trees: for site preparation and protection of
artificial spruce regeneration, for public safety along forest roads,
and for firefighter safety in the event of a fire.
The public is invited to comment on our proposed action. Comments
can be either oral or written in response to this project. Comments
received, including names and addresses of those who comment, will be
considered part of the public record for this project and will be
available for public inspection.
