Carbon High pitcher Kenzie Cave lets one fly for a strike in the recent game against South Sevier. Cave and her team battled back in the game in late innings only to have it slip away in the final frame last Wednesday.
In their final preseason game of the season, Carbon played host to a scrappy team from South Sevier. It was a game that saw a lot of offense, including three balls that sailed over the fence before all was said and done. But in the end it was South Sevier that prevailed with a 14-12 win over the Lady Dinos last Wednesday afternoon.
Kensey Cave took the mound for the Dinos and did not have her best stuff according to Coach Tony Pinedo. But he also felt like she gave it her all and after three the game was knotted at four runs each.
Carbon grabbed the lead by a run in the fourth, but South Sevier reclaimed it with a pair in the fifth and three in the sixth. Down by three, the lady Dinos exploded in the bottom half of the sixth to put up seven runs and were hoping to close out the seventh and take home the win. But South Sevier was not done and they send three over in the final frame to retake the lead. Carbon, bats had used their pop in the sixth and they could not push anything over in the seventh and left with the loss.
Megan Tubbs hit a homer for the Lady Dinos in the game. Her shot took out a spectators windshield in the process. Nikki Williams, Kylee Lessar, Briannne Vogrinec and Darian Smith each had an extra base hit in the game as well.
"You always would rather have a win, but I have no complaints about the way our girls battled back in this game," stated Coach Pinedo after the game. "We started off slow, swinging at bad pitches, but then we settled in and played a great team game."
The team will have played their first region game against ALA on Monday, March 29. Scores were not available at press time and will be in a later edition of the Sun Advocate. They see action again on Tuesday, April 6 with another home game They will be taking on region foe Wasatch at 3:30 p.m. on the Dino softball field.
