Miranda Averett gets an easy layup as she scored 13 points as part of the Dinos win.
Moving their region record to 2-1, the Lady Dinos crushed the American Leadership Academy on Friday night at home. The final score was 59-29 and the outcome was apparent after half-way through the second period of play.
Early in the game, Carbon struggled to get the ball to drop. Several shots rolled the rim and back out, to the frustration of the team and the crowd. At the end of the first, the game was tied at seven.
Then the Dino offense and defense woke up at the same time and ALA had no answer for the barrage. Half time saw the Eagles head to the locker room down 28-12.
It didn't get any better for ALA after the break as they stared at a 44-17 deficit as they headed to the fourth. Even when Coach Cami Carlson emptied her bench, ALA could not make any headway. A relaxed varsity team watched from the bench as the future of the Lady Dinos got a few minutes to shine.
Tia Pappas continues to dominate her opponents as she scored 18 points and grabbed eight steals and dished five assists to be the Dino player of the game yet again.
She was also five of six from beyond the arc. Miranda Averett made her presence felt as well with 13 points. Mariah Pollock pulled in four boards and five assists. Kylee Lessar had five rebounds and eight points.
Overall, Coach Carlson was more pleased with this win than the one over Park City. She knew that ALA was not a power team and she challenged her girls to play at the high level that they need to play to beat the good teams, not to play down to the level of the weaker opponents. She feels like they did just that.
"We had a little bit of a slow start before we really got going. There also were a few times in the middle when our defense got a bit lazy, but overall they did just what I ask of them."
The team will get a second home game in a row with a match-up with Union on Tuesday. The Cougars and Carbon are tied for second in the region at 2-1. Tip-off will be at 7 p m right after the boy's game with Union in the Carbon gym.
