Joy Malone sends another shot over the net for a kill. She had 24 kills in the win Friday against San Juan. The Dinos have now improved to 3-4 overall and are 2-0 in region action.
The Lady Dino volleyball team remains undefeated in region action with a 3-0 victory over Roosevelt on Thursday night.
Carbon took down the Union Cougars 25-16, 25-10 and 25-23 for their first sweep of the season. Fresh off the win, Carbon took on the top 2A team in the state on Friday. The Lady Dinos again walked away with the win over the San Juan Broncos 21-25, 27-25, 25-17 and 25-17.
Coach Bob Potts looked at the match as one of the best team efforts from his young players so far.
"We looked like we wanted to be there and it was a great effort from everyone. I hope we haven't peaked and are still willing to get better because we still have many tough matches ahead," he said.
Joy Malone and Sara Potts dominated the middle for the Dinos. Union could not penetrate to get any scoring. Malone had 12 kills with Potts adding 10.
They also were huge as the team put up 10 tram blocks and there were 20 block assists to shut down Roosevelt's offense.
Potts was very happy with the performance of setters Shaylee Donathan and Alexis Oliver.
Their sets were right on target to allow the front line to steer their shots wher ever they wanted.
Team serving for the Lady Dinos was a big factor in keeping Union off balance. The team put the ball where they wanted the entire night and the Cougars had no answer.
Against the Broncos on Friday night, Carbon started off a bit sluggish and got behind in game one quickly. But for the rest of the match they found their footing and kept San Juan back on their heels.
Malone found her shot again and racked up 24 kills with Sara Potts adding six. Donathan and Oliver each dished out 19 assists.
Coach Potts also praised his back line for making the passes off the serve that allowed his setters to deliver the ball to where his hitters needed it.
Mariah Pollock pulled off 14 defensive digs and Kacylia Ivory had 12.
Wasatch is next up for the Dinos on Tuesday.
That match will be in Heber.
