Carbon Goalie Lydia Jeppson sends a kick back down field in an earlier game. She is a key in the Carbon defense that held ALA to get their first region win of the season.
The region switch has been good for the Carbon girls soccer team. In their second region match of the year, Carbon posted their first win in region play with a 5-4 victory over ALA on Tuesday afternoon.
It was also the first road win for the team.
Olivia Upwall was the first Dino to score for Carbon.
Through the reset of the half it would be an offensive game as ALA put three in the net and Felicia Olmos added three more for the Lady Dinos.
In the second half the weight of the game fell on the shoulders of the defense for Carbon to hold onto the lead.
Olmos added a goal and ALA matched it as the Dinos held on to a tenuous one point advantage.
Defense has been the downfall of the Carbon team so far this season, but in the Tuesday game, it was solid and Carbon downed ALA to grab the region win.
Whitney Thompson had an assist on one of the Olmos goals and Marley Snyder was credited with an assist on another of Olmos' goals. Olmos scored a hat trick plus one in the victory.
For Coach Jerad Upwall it was a very satisfying game. "We played some of our best team defense all season. It has been our weakness and it is great to have it start to come together as we play these region games."
Carbon stands at 1-1 in region action, but are asking for a replay in the loss with Union because of lack of officials in the game.
