Superintendent Patsy Bueno recently issued information about present programs in Carbon School District as well as some information for the upcoming year.
First of all this year, the first day of school will be August 17. That first day will be an early release day, with all schools dismissing at between 11:30 a.m. and noon.
The individual schools will distribute more information regarding each schools schedule for the year.
In the past the district has provided an after-school program to support parents during those after-school hours between school dismissing and parents getting off of work. Because the program is self-sustaining, the district must set a mandatory minimum enrollment. During the 2009-2010 school year, Pro-Care will be offered at Castle Heights Elementary and Creekview Elementary. The program will be in place by the first day of school. If parents have questions, they are encouraged to call Connie at the district office, at 637-1732.
This year the district has also been busy with some capital outlay projects. Included in this summers capital projects are parking lot renovations at the Lighthouse/District Office and a first phase of the parking lot re-do at Carbon High School. The Lighthouse/District Office parking lot has begun and is expected to be finished in early fall. Carbon High School's first phase includes the moving of the hill directly north of the old gym to create a larger driveway, along with additional parking. The second phase of the parking lot at the high school will entail a complete demolish of the existing and the creation of a new parking lot, complete with new design. We apologize for any inconvenience that the construction creates.
The district is also pleased the announce the launch of its new website on August 3. It can be found at www.carbonschools.org
"It is our hope that this website will serve the public in providing important information regarding our instructional programs, our improvement plans, our support programs, and about our staff," said Bueno. "We encourage folks to give us input about the contents and organizations - we want this site to be a valuable tool for parents, students, and the community."
The district also made an administrative change at Mont Harmon Junior High this year.
Bruce Bean, the former volleyball coach, biology teacher and assistant principal at Carbon High will take over the reins as principal this coming school year. Kerry Jensen, who was serving as principal at Mont Harmon will replace Bean at the high school.
Finally the district has changed the date of the August board meeting from August 12 to August 5.
The regular public meeting as always, will be held at 5 p.m.
