The Carbon High girl's volleyball team seldom loses a match.
It has been a very rare event for them to get swept by a team.
But that is exactly what happened for the Lady Dinos in their first match of the season against Richfield. Carbon dropped all three games: 25-15, 25-11 and 25-15.
"They looked impressive in warm-ups and our team was somewhat intimidated by the home team and their very supportive noisy crowd." commented coach Potts.
Carbon started out very slowly and had a tough time defending Richfield's outside hitter.
The Dinos also did not pass the ball well, forcing setter Shaylee Donathan to chase balls all over the court in an attempt to set.
When there were good passes Donathan was able to convert with assists, setting Joy Malone for five kills in nine attempts.
Game two was also a struggle from the start as Carbon only managed 11 points and two kills.
Players came off the bench freely as an attempt was made to regenerate the team and find some combinations that would work.
The Dinos showed their frustration as the game progressed and they were not able to generate any offense against Richfield.
The final game started off with a change in offense for Carbon. Richfield's outside hitter was slowed down with bigger Dino blockers on the right side.
The Dinos stayed much closer to Richfield until the score late in the match. But the Dinos could not maintain any momentum and allowed this game to also slip away.
In a rematch from one of Carbon's biggest rivals from the old region eight alignment, North Sanpete will be in town on Tuesday (today) September 4.
The Varsity match-up will begin at 6:30 p.m. at the carbon gym.
