Girls soccer has big win on Grantsville

Sports reporter

It's been a tough preseason for the Carbon High girl's soccer team this year. Rebuilding after a solid season isn't always easy. On Thursday afternoon, the girls got to show that they are putting things together with a convincing 9-1 drubbing of Grantsville in front of a home crowd. The Lady Dinos wasted no time in establishing their offensive power with a quick goal off the first possession. Less than five minutes into the game they punched it in again, and held a 3-0 lead.

As time clicked off the clock, the Dino's confidence continued to improve along with their passes and dribbling. They also stopped Grantsville from taking away any of their building momentum. Toward the end of the first half, Grantsville was awarded a penalty kick and made their only goal. This did not turn the tide, and the Dino continued to pour it on with 5-1 at the half.

Carbon sent four more flying into the net before the whole thing was over to claim their first victory of the season. Felicia Olmos sent seven shots into the net and Samantha Jones also added two goals. Both were assisted by much of the offense including Olivia Upwall and Whitney Thompson.

"They are getting it," said Coach Jerad Upwall after the game. "There are still some things on defense we need to work on, but this was a good game. We worked hard on defense for Wednesday to fix our problems in the Tuesday game. If they had played this way in the Tuesday game we would have won that one too. It was a good moral booster for the girls."

Manti rolls in to play on Tuesday (today) September 1 on the Dino field. Game time forthe varsity game is 4 p.m.
