Carbon's Samantha Jones tangles with a Uintah player as they each try to gain the upper hand during an earlier game. The losses in preseason are continuing as the Carbon defense shakes out its bugs.
Preseason games continue to force the Dino girl's soccer team to work on their defense, but the Carbon offense stepped even as the team lost 7 - 3 to South Summit on Tuesday night.
Felicia Olmos punched three goals across for the Dinos on Tuesday. She scored a pair in the first half and one more in the second to give Carbon their three goals on the night.
Coach Jerad Upwall was quick to point out the each goal was a team effort. Good passing from the mid field to the forward earned the team each point. None of the scores was a given. Whitney Thompson assisted on one of the goals and Olivia Upwall was credited with the assist on the other two.
But even with the offensive side of the squad falling into place, they still struggled to put it together on defense.
Coach Upwall is still upbeat about the progress.
"We will get it," he said. "There are just some defensive things we messed up on in the first half that we really need to improve on."
For the small Dino squad, having two starters missing for the game didn't help. Upwall felt like the team effort on defense had actually been better in the game against Maple Mountain. However in the second, half things clicked a bit better and the team only gave up one more goal late in the contest.
The team is taking on Grantsville on Thursday (today) at 4:00 p.m. on the Dino's soccer field.
