Jeni and Morgan Lund, along with David Dornen presented a proposal during last Thursday's Helper City council meeting outlining how they would like to rejuvenate the Rio Theater.

The lengthy proposal indicates they would like to be ready to start professional theater performances at the Rio on July 1, 2009, and includes Jeni and Morgan Lund as directors of the theatre. It also includes nearly a half million dollar project to completely remodel the building and update the equipment.

The Helper Arts Council has taken the drama group, as well as Jeni and Morgan Lund under their wing and backs them on the proposal.

Jeni Lund presented the proposal and then gave an estimated cost of $350-$500,000 for the project.

Mayor Dalpiaz and the council listened to the overview of the proposal and when they had the option to ask questions the mayor had only one.

"I and the city are very excited about this, but where are we going to get that kind of funding?" he asked. " There is no room left in the (city's) budget at all."

Councilmembers had the same concern.

Jeni Lund assured them that there is grant funding available that only city governments can apply for and that if they give her some time she will help them find the funding.

The council assigned councilman Kirk Mascaro, who was excused from the meeting, to oversee the issue and it was tabled for later review.
