American Legion organizations in Carbon County will send six local young women to the 2009 Utah Girls State event and three young men from Carbon County to attend Boys State from June 8 to June 12 at Weber State University in Ogden.
The Carbon County nominees selected by the Price American Legion Auxiliary to attend Girls State are Emily Branch, Katy Penry, Joy Malone, Sam Olson, Ariel Dye and Kelcee Gilson.
Price American Legion Post 3 named Mario Trejo, Tyler Parry and David Kobe to represent the organization at 2009 Utah Boys State event.
The program is designed to educate high juniors regarding the rights, privileges and responsibilities associated with being United States citizens.
Attendees will participate in objective, practical training about city, county and state governments during educational activities presented at the event.
The American Legion annually selects students who exhibit outstanding leadership, personal character, scholastic qualities and commitment to their schools.
