Lois Sarah Hicken Duke
HURRICANE - Beloved mother, grandmother and friend, Lois Sarah Hicken Duke, passed away March 13, 2009 at her home in Hurricane with her daughter and son-in-law at her side.
Lois was born April 29, 1914 in Heber City to Thomas Warren and Lula Moulton Hicken. She graduated from Wasatch High School and, on June 29, 1936, she married Merrill Young Duke.Â Their marriage was solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple March 16, 1944.
Lois served faithfully in many capacities in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.Â She and her husband, Merrill, were officiators in the Provo LDS Temple.Â
They spent many years living in Sunnyside and spent their retirement years in Spanish Fork.
After Merrill's passing, Lois moved to Hurricane.
She was known for her handwork, including hundreds of beautiful temple aprons.Â
She was devoted to her family.
Lois loved the many family gatherings, time spent outdoors hunting, fishing and camping.
Lois was preceded in death by her husband; parents, Thomas and Lula Hicken; one sister, Zelma Hicken and two brothers, Thomas Karl (Elsie) and Bert M. Hicken. Lois is survived by her four children, Dale Y. (Claranne) (Jean, deceased), Luana Casper (Darwin), Warren George (Nancy) and Brent M. (Linda).
Funeral services were Friday, March 20, at the Hurricane LDS Chapel. Graveside services were at the Heber City Cemetery Saturday, March 21. Funeral arrangements by Olpin-Hoopes Funeral Home.Â Condolences may be sent to www.olpinhoopes.com.
