Howa finishes with bronze at NAIA

Dustin (Dirt) Howa led the William Penn University Statemen wrestling team with a bronze finish at the NAIA Central National Qualifier on Feb. 21 and placed third in the 141 pound bracket with a 2-1 record.

Dustin (Dirt) Howa led the William Penn University Statemen wrestling team with a bronze finish at the NAIA Central National Qualifier on Feb. 21 and placed third in the 141 pound bracket with a 2-1 record.

Dirt represented the school (Oskaloosa, Iowa) for the 52nd annuual National Wrestling Championship held in Oklahoma City, Okla. He went into the meet with a 12-6 record. In the competition he won his first match 4-2, lost the second match, 7-11, and struggled through the third match with a sudden knee injury losing 5-7.

He will have another chance to challenge himself in the tournament again next year. Dirt is a 2005 graduate of Carbon High and is from Price. He took the Utah state wrestling championship for the 141 lb. class the year he was a senior at Carbon.
