Sandra Leigh Sulser

Sandra Leigh Sulser

HELPER - Sandra Leigh Sulser, 70, loving wife, sister, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, passed away March 4, 2009 in Helper.

She was born July 22, 1938 in Salt Lake City to George and Lilly Jardine Lythgoe. On Sept. 14, 1953, Sandra married her sweetheart, Bud Sulser. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt LDS Lake Temple.

Lived in Salt Lake City, Myton and Sandy before moving to Vernal, where they stayed for almost 40 years, before moving to Helper to retire. They were soulmates for over 53 years before Bud passed away on Jan. 15, 2007.

Sandra was known as the "million mile grandma" because she was always traveling to visit family and friends. She was always one of the first people to volunteer to help out those close to her, no matter how far away the person lived.

She was a kind and friendly person who welcomed anyone into her home. Many of her grandchildren's friends called her grandma as she cared for them as if they were her own.

Though she could not swim, she loved to drive the boat and spent many summer nights camping at the lake. She would also accompany Bud on cross-country road trips on his rig, but her heart always called her home to her family.

Aside from her time spent attending to her family, she enjoyed playing cards and board games, telling stories, reading and watching her beloved Utah Jazz. She always carried a deck of cards wherever she went, in case someone wanted to play a game.

She also kept a garden full of peas, carrots, and fresh raspberries for her grandchildren and the neighborhood children.

She is survived by her four children, Shane (Chris) Sulser, Rock Springs, Wyo.; Christina (Robbie) Gray, Helper; Lisa Sulser, Helper; and Kurt Sulser, Salt Lake City; brothers and sisters, Eunice Watkins, Pat Kost, Jay (Ruth) Sulser, Relva Evans, Terry (KayLynn) Sulser, Albert Winterrose and Shirley Lythgoe; eight grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; siblings, Jackie Winterrose and Hartley Lythgoe; and brothers-in-law, Jack Watkins, Dave Smith, Ed Kost and Barney Evans.

Funeral services were Monday, March 9, with interment at Midway Cemetery.
