CEU baseball opens play

Sports reporter

Even as the weather warms, it is still hard to believe that here in Carbon County it is already baseball season.

But the Golden Eagles have already put 14 games under their belt. They will now begin Scenic West Athletic Conference play with a 7-7 record on the right foot.

But it didn't go as planned two weekends ago as the Eagles were swept by number 24 in the nation, Western Nevada College.

On Feb. 27th the Eastern Utah Team fell 17-5 in the first game of the double header to WNC and 28-5 in the second game.

The next day the Golden Eagle team went into the games hoping to pull out with a two game split or even take just one game from WNC, but the Wildcats had other plans. The Golden Eagles fell 9-0 in the first game and lost 3-2 in 10 innings in the last game played.

In the final game the Golden Eagles had a 2-0 lead over WNC going into the final inning. CEU's two runs had been scored in the bottom of the 4th inning.

Coach Scott Madsen feels like overall the CEU baseball team has struggled in some areas, but show promise in that they will be able to turn it around.

The Eagles head to Rangely, Colo. to face Colorado Northwestern Community College this Friday and Saturday for a four game set.
