Karma Kofford Mackey

ST. GEORGE - Karma Kofford Mackey passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 20, 2009, in St. George.

She was born on Aug. 4, 1926 in Helper to Elgin and Addie Collingham Kofford.

She grew up in Helper, graduated from Carbon High School in 1944 and spent the next few years living in Long Beach, Calif.

On May 6, 1951, she married Waino "Bud" Victor Mackey in Las Vegas, Nev. The marriage was warm and wonderful for them both.

She was the mother of two children; Addie Jean (Jeanie) Bentley and Michael Victor Mackey. She was also the grandmother of Kim Marie Ducote and Christopher Charles Bentley. Two precious great-grandsons also joined the family; Joseph Sage and Dominic Charles Ducote.

When Jeanie and Mike were ages 8 and 11, she returned to work for Carbon Emery Bank, later Zions, in Price. She retired at age 60 so she and Bud could travel more than the usual summer vacation.

Mom enjoyed traveling, Bridge, walking and her flower gardens.

After retirement, Karma and Bud moved to Roy to be near their grandchildren. In Roy, they played bridge with friends, walked every day and took short automobile trips in the western states.

In 1994, they moved to Cedar City, again to be near their daughter and family.

In 2001, they moved to St. George.

Bud and Karma spent many happy years traveling to almost every state in the U.S., including Hawaii and Alaska. They traveled to the east coast and twice to the west coast of Canada, including the Canadian Rockies. They also took two cruises as well as two trips to Europe.

Survivors include daughter, Addie Jean "Jeanie" (Charley) Bentley of St. George and Scofield; son, Michael Victor Mackey of Denver, Colo.; two beloved grandchildren, Kim Marie (C.J.) Ducote of Washington City and Christopher Charles Bentley of Sandy; two great grandsons, Joseph Sage Ducote and Dominic Charles Ducote. She is also survived by her sister, Fern L. (Don) Jenkins, Ione, Calif.; and her brother, Max Elgin (Diane) Kofford of Estes Park, Colo. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bud Mackey, who died last month; her parents, Addie and Elgin Kofford; and her brother, Keith Collingham Kofford.

Her family expresses heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Ridge View Gardens Assisted Living, DRMC, Dr. C. Kerry Stratford and Dominic Larsen from Home Instead, who helped care for our mother and grandmother at the end of her life.

A family viewing was at Spilsbury Mortuary in St. George prior to the graveside services on Saturday, Jan. 24, in the Price City Cemetery.
