A Carbon High swimmer digs hard at her freestyle stroke at an earlier swimm meet here in Price.
On Jan. 24, the Carbon High swim team traveled to Juan Diego for the region eight championship swim meet. The boys came away taking second place with 316 points and girls finished a strong in fifth with 233 points.
"The swimmers have worked hard this season rebuilding their team after losing all their strongest swimmers from last year," said coach Kamra Davis. "They are ready to prove that this team is just as strong. The swimmers have improved their times dramatically all season and proved it in region, swimming to twenty seven best times just in this meet."
Many of the swimmers had top ten finishes at the meet and quite a few left with a medal to highlight their season's accomplishments.
Jill Malone took 8th in the 200 free and fourth place in the 500 free, Brett Davis grabbed seventh in the 200 free and received a second place medal and automatic spot at the high school state swim meet at BYU.
Megan Barnett ended ninth in the 200 IM and received a sixth place medal for the 100 back. Randy Slane received a sixth place medal for the 200 IM and eighth in the 100 fly. Tim Neilson finished eighth in the 200 IM and received a third place medal for the 100 back. He may qualify for a state berth but won't know until January 30.
Erica Perkins placed eighth in the 50 free and tenth in the 100 free. Terrence Henrie medaled with a fifth place finish in the 50 free and sixth in the 100 free. Adam Falsone ended up 10th in the 50 free and seventh in the100 back. Aysha Black swam the 100 fly for the first time and placed eighth. Chrissy Cox finished tenth in the100 fly. Dallen Garvin receiving a sixth place medal in the 100 fly and may have swam a good enough time to qualify for state.
Kyle Hicken was in seventh in the 100 free and Brandon Gibson took tenth in the same race. Ryan Slane received a fifth place medal in the 500 free. He may have also swam a good enough time for state. Toby Prettman took home a sixth place medal for the 500 free. Jill Fincher finished ninth place in the 100 back. Kaeden Kulow receiving a fourth place medal in the 100back. Kenzie Mantz grabbed seventh in the 100 breast. Jed Prettyman got a sixth place medal in the 100 breast. Nick Torres finished tenth in the 100 breast.
Davis summed things up,"I have enjoyed my first season coaching and will miss all the seniors that will be leaving. Thanks to all the swimmers for working so hard."
