George John Maricich
PRICE/SANTEE, Calif. - George John Maricich, age 84, passed away Dec. 29, 2008 in El Cajon, Calif.
Dad was born May 6, 1924 to Eli and Mary Maricich in Chicago, Ill. He married Lucinne Krezmer on May 31, 1947 in Chicago, Ill.
Dad loved his family and country.
He served in the U.S. Army during WWII in the Pacific Campaign. He received many medals.
He was so proud to be a veteran and was a member of VFW Post 9237 in Santee, Calif.
Dad loved sports and his "ponies."
He was a great diver, won many trophies as a bowler and was even offered a position in the early 1950s on the San Diego Padres baseball team.
He coached Little League and volleyball teams.
Dad move his family to Price in 1963 and worked at the missile site in Green River until it shut down in 1968.
While residing here, he was a member of Notre Dame de Lourdes Catholic Church, the VFW and Price Elks Lodge.
After returning to San Diego, Calif., Dad worked at Cubic Corp. for 20 years and retired.
In the later years of his retirement, he would sit outside on his "throne," as our Mom would say, and wave or talk to all who passed by. He was known to all the neighborhood as "the old man who waved to everyone."
He will be dearly missed by his loving wife, Lu, Chino, Calif.; daughters, Mary Ann (Chris) Atkin, Ogden; Suzanne (David) Cartwright, Price; Dianne (Casey) Hanrahan, Las Vegas, Nev.; and Carol Ann (Gary) Hofmann, Chino, Calif.; son, Michael (Anne) Maricich, Springfield, Va.; 15 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
Burial was in the Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery in San Diego, Calif.
