A Carbon swimmer completes her portion of the breast stroke at an earlier meet conducted in Price.
On Dec. 5 and 6, the Carbon High swim team traveled to Canyon View High School for an invitational meet where they faced off against much bigger schools and held their own.
There were 14, 3A, 4A and 5A teams competing in the large meet. Oveall there were over four hundred swimmers participating. Carbon placed 13th overall in both the girl's and boy's competition.
"The ranking doesn't show how well the swimmers actually did. You could only score points if you were in the top sixteen. In many events there were over 100 swimmers," explained Coach Kamera Davis.
In the girl's 200 medley relay Carbon finished 20th out of 26. The relay team knocked 10 seconds off their time.
In the boy's 200 medley relay, Carbon placed 15 out of 23. They also took 10 seconds off their best time.
In the 50 free, Erica Perkins placed 31st and Kim Callaway placed 53rd out of 94.
For the boys, Terrence Henrie placed 30th and, Kyle Hicken took 42nd. Kaeden Kulow placed 50th out of 120 swimmers in the 50 free.
The 100 butterfly had Dallen Garvin finishing in 24th out of 37. Jill Malone finished 16th and Ryan Slane finished 20th as they competed in the 200 free.
In the girl's 200 free relay Carbon placed 19th. The boys team place 13th and 19th in the 100 backstroke. Tim Neilson took 23rd as an individual.
"In the boy's 100 breast stroke our team has a huge competition in this event. There are four boys that take turns coming in with the fastest time. This time it was Jed Prettyman finishing 26th, Toby Prettyman finished 33rd.
The other two were unable to make the trip, but would have been right there with them. Throughout the meet we have a total of 35 best times. The swimmers swam great," commented Davis.
Carbon next swims Dec. 19 and 20 at Juan Diego.
