Abby Flemetakis 2003-2008
WEST JORDAN - On Oct. 18, 2008, our beautiful Abby Flemetakis left this physical plane to pursue her own growth and evolution.
Abby was born without the ability to develop a functional immune system.
Known as "Bubble Boy Disease," severe combined immune deficiency syndrome (SCIDS) nearly took Abby's life. For two years, she valiantly battled graft vs. host disorder after her first bone marrow transplant, coming very close to death again before her second transplant, which was a success.
For the last three years, Abby enjoyed life as a healthy child. She loved going to Nickel Mania and playing Deal/No Deal, playing with her sister and cousins and going to dance and tumbling classes.
She started kindergarten and loved school, where she did very well. She felt riding a school bus to an outing was a glorious adventure.
Abby also was granted a wish by the Make A Wish Foundation. She and her sister and parents flew to Orlando to Disney World, where she met her favorite celebrity, Dora The Explorer.
Abby was chosen to be a poster child for the Make A Wish Foundation. She toured schools where she represented the foundation and even made an advertisement for the Rubber Ducky Derby.
But on Oct. 18, Abby suddenly and unexpectedly passed away.
Abby was a teacher. She was an old soul who returned to the physical world this time, not to learn lessons, but to teach love, courage and strength to her parents, sister, and her extended family.
We were blessed to have her with us for a short time. She was dearly loved and will be forever missed.
Abby is survived by her parents, Will and Summer Flemetakis; her sister, Zoe; her grandparents, Bill and Gloria Flemetakis, Sherry Griffith, Jim Griffith and Sue Hafey, Brent and Sheila Myers; her great-grandparents, Barbara Flemetakis, Larene Blaine, Ruby Myers and Rosaleen Fenn; and many adoring aunts and uncles and cousins.
A celebration of Abby's life will be Sunday, Oct. 26, at 11 a.m. at the Make A Wish Foundation, located at 771 E. Winchester Street, Murray. All who knew and loved Abby are welcome.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Make A Wish Foundation to help other children's dreams come true.
