MILTON, Fla. - Elliott A. Fairbanks, 85, of Milton, Fla., passed away Tuesday, Oct. 7, 2008. He was born March 7, 1923 in Eugene, Ore.

Elliott was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Dad loved his children and was a pillar of strength to them.

Dad promoted and shared his highest values of integrity, honesty, loyalty and work ethic and was always at the right place at the right time for his children.

Dad has always magnified his priesthood callings, filling positions within the stake presidency under president Jim Jensen in Price. He was also very active promoting the know your religion series in Price, where it went from a few attendees to standing room only.

Dad obtained his scouting rank of Eagle at age 13, spent countless hours working with the LDS youth programs, filled positions of leadership as a professional scouter at the national council in New Jersey, on the district council level in Price and ultimately received the Silver Beaver.

Elliott was the dean of development for the College of Eastern Utah in Price,. During his tenure, he was responsible for bringing in millions of dollars to expand and upgrade the college.

Elliott served in the U.S. Army as a tech sergeant (T-Sgt.) during WWII in Europe: London, Germany and France. Dad's job included. micro-film programs and the Soldier Show Company, where he met Micky Rooney and Telly Savalas, aka Kojak.

He also worked on the lunar module, the F-14 Tomcat projects with Grumman cors.and the U.S. Navy LAMPS anti submarine projects.

Elliott performed missionary service in New Zealand during the Matthew Cowley era. He served among the Maoris and was adopted as a family member, receiving the name Tari-Taia. While in New Zealand, he worked and administered LDS Church operations in the New Hucca Carved House and eventually rose to chief carver. Dignitaries and church officials at the dedication indicated it was one of the finest carved houses in New Zealand.

Elliott is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Dawn Edwards Fairbanks; his son, Jay (Delvinia) Fairbanks; daughter, Claudia (Dale) Larson; son, Paul (Jetta) Fairbanks; son, Matt (Lisa) Fairbanks; daughter, Cindy (Clark) Atwood; and son, Jonathan (Amy) Fairbanks. He is also survived by 27 grandchildren and one on the way; 13 great-grandchildren and two on the way; six brothers, 2two sisters and many other relatives and friends. Elliott was preceded in death by his parents Avard and Maude Fairbanks and one brother, Justin Fairbanks.

Visitation was Friday, Oct. 10, at the National Cremation and Burial Society Chapel, Milton, Fla. Funeral services were Saturday, Oct.11, at the Church of Jesus Christ Of Latter-day Saints. Interment was at Barrancas National Cemetery on Tuesday, Oct. 14. National Cremation and Burial Society was entrusted with the arrangements.
