Chandelle Rudman protects the ball from a Juan Diego player.
With a week off to prepare, the Carbon Dinos were hopeful they could put on a good show against the top ranked Soaring Eagles. No matter, it was Juan Diego that came out on top by the score of 8-1 on Friday afternoon.
Carbon came out strong and played a good defense for several minutes into the half. Juan Diego worked the ball, but couldn't score. But finally one sneaked by the Carbon goalie for the first point and the Soaring Eagles were on the board. They scored three more times in the first half.
Carbon did manage a goal against what looked like an impenetrable defense. Felicia Olmos stuck it in the net for the Dinos. But Juan Diego showed why they are ranked so highly and added four more to their tally as they played both solid offense and defense throughout the game.
Coach Jerad Upwall was still encouraged by his team's play, "Last match up with Juan Diego we spent the entire game playing defense, this time we had some good offense and even scored against them."
He is also excited that North Sanpete beat Salem Hills and now the spot for second place is up for grabs. North Sanpete has only one game left, Carbon has two, The Dinos have already beaten Delta and hope to do it again this week. "We are still in it. I don't know what the outcome will be, but the region is evenly matched up, after Juan Diego and anything can happen," commented Upwall about the rest of regular season play.
The Dinos have two more games left until playoffs. They head up to take on Delta this Wednesday and then finish up at home on Friday against Salem Hills.
